Hamptons Summer Wines 2026: Long Island Vineyards, Lobster Rolls & Beach Rosé
A luxe field guide to the wines, tables and rituals of a great Hamptons summer, from Sagaponack to Greenport, with pairings for everything you will actually eat.
The Long Island Expressway empties out somewhere east of Riverhead, and the world quiets. The light goes a shade warmer. Hedgerows give way to corn rows, then to vine rows, then to the slate-blue line of the Atlantic. A Hamptons summer is one of America's great rituals of slowing down, and at its center is a glass of something cold, pale and serious. This is the field guide to drinking it well.
The North Fork: An American Wine Region in Plain Sight

The Long Island AVA has been quietly serious since 1973, when Louisa and Alex Hargrave planted the first commercial vinifera vines on the North Fork. Five decades later, the region is producing some of the most elegant cool-climate wine in the eastern United States. Maritime breezes, glacial moraine soils and a long, gentle growing season produce wines with the precision of the Loire and the suppleness of Bordeaux's Right Bank.
Start your weekend at Wölffer Estate in Sagaponack, the only serious winery on the South Fork, where the rosé pours rival Bandol. Then make the run up to the North Fork: Channing Daughters for orange wines and the cult Rosato; Paumanok for benchmark Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin; Macari for biodynamic Sauvignon and the impossibly drinkable Early Wine; Bedell Cellars for the Taste Rosé and serious Merlot; Lieb Cellars for sparkling Pinot Blanc; Sparkling Pointe for Champagne-method bubbles; and Kontokosta for cliffside views and a dry Riesling that drinks like Mosel with a tan.
The Hamptons Wine Cheat Sheet

- Sunset bubbles: Sparkling Pointe Brut Séduction, Wölffer Noblesse Oblige Rosé Cider, Lieb Sparkling Pinot Blanc
- Dinner red: Bedell Musée, Macari Bergen Road, Paumanok Cabernet Franc
- Magnum, always: Wölffer Summer in a Bottle Magnum is the single most useful bottle of the season
The Rosé Summer Has a Capital, and It Is Sagaponack
You can taste the entire summer in a glass of Wölffer rosé. Pale salmon, white peach and wild strawberry, a saline finish that calls for oysters. The estate produces a tiered rosé program from the everyday Summer in a Bottle to the cult Grandioso, and every level is calibrated for a porch, a dock or a tide line. Channing Daughters' Rosato, made from Refosco and Lagrein, pours a shade darker and a touch more savory, perfect with grilled bluefish and tomato salad.
If you can find one bottle for the season, find a magnum. A 1.5L of pale rosé in a marble ice bucket is the visual grammar of a great Hamptons table. It also paces a long lunch correctly: one magnum across four people, two hours, no stress, no second trip to the wine fridge.
Lobster Rolls, Clam Bakes & the Coastal Pairing Logic

Hamptons food is governed by the tide. Whatever came off the boat that morning is what dinner is, and the wine list adjusts accordingly. The two great lobster roll traditions — Connecticut-style with warm drawn butter, Maine-style with chilled mayo — pair on opposite sides of the wine spectrum. The butter wants weight; the mayo wants cut.

Poolside, Porch & the Long Lunch

The Hamptons pool is its own cuisine. Plan the wine the way you would plan the menu: light to heavier, low to higher alcohol, glass to magnum. Open with a Lieb Pinot Blanc sparkling at noon. Move into a magnum of Wölffer Summer in a Bottle by two. By four, when the sun has dropped behind the hedge and someone has pulled out a cheese board, pour Bedell Taste Rosé into bigger glasses. Save a single bottle of Macari Bergen Road for after the sun goes down. Six hours, four wines, no headaches.
Canned wine is no longer a compromise. Wölffer Spring in a Bottle and Summer in a Bottle cans are stocked in every good Bridgehampton wine shop and were engineered for exactly this scenario: pool, sand, kayak, paddleboard. Pack a small cooler. Tip well.
A Perfect Hamptons Wine Weekend
Friday evening: Stop at Wölffer Estate for the 5 to 8 sunset tasting. Drive into Sag Harbor for dinner at The American Hotel; order a bottle of Bedell Musée with the duck.
Saturday: Drive the North Fork. Three wineries, max. We suggest Channing Daughters, Paumanok and Sparkling Pointe in that order. Lunch at Lucharitos in Greenport for tacos and rosé. Sunset at Kontokosta on the bluffs.
Sunday: Long lunch at home. Magnum of rosé. Lobster rolls from The Lobster Roll on Napeague. Cheese from Mecox Bay Dairy. Strawberries and shortcake. A nap. The 4:00 ferry back is not the worst thing.
